Description

This is a basic sewing video. Learn about seam allowances and patterns. Back tack several stitches at the beginning and end of each stitching line, in order to secure the stitching so that it won’t pull out. If you can’t back stitch, then tie off the thread tails before trimming the thread close to your new knot. Seam guides are the marked measurements next to the pressure foot, and are used to sew straight seams. Some machines have multiple speed settings. When sewing around curves, use your hands to coax the fabric around the curves, using the seam guides to help keep your seams even. Pinking sheers can be used after sewing the seam or the seam allowance can be serged using a serger sewing machine. Pressing is important after sewing the seam. Your pattern will tell you which way to press the seam–wither pressing it open or to one side. Sometimes seams are finger pressed open, instead of pressing with an iron.
